NERFU Kicks Off 2025 Rugby Season

The NERFU rugby season kicks off on September 7, featuring dozens of college and adult teams competing in seven divisions across New England.

The 2025 NERFU (New England Rugby Football Union) rugby season kicks off on September 7, with senior men’s and women’s clubs taking the field to defend their titles and fight for championship glory. With a range of exciting competitions, the season promises to bring top-tier rugby action across New England.

In senior rugby, the Boston Irish Wolfhounds are back to defend their Men’s Division 2 title, while Charles River Rugby looks to hold onto the Men’s Division 3 crown. For the women, Albany Knickerbockers and South Shore Sirens return as reigning champions in Divisions 2 and 3, respectively. Seacoast Rugby, the Men’s Division 4 champions, will also take to the field this season. Senior semi-finals are set for November 9, with finals on November 16.

Collegiate rugby kicks off on September 14, with defending Champions Division winners Babson College and Challenge Division winners Nichols College returning for another exciting season. Collegiate semi-finals will take place on November 2, with the finals on November 9.

In addition to NERFU league play, two elite teams are competing on a broader stage. Mystic River Rugby will compete in the American Rugby Premiership (ARP), facing top-tier competition along the East Coast. Boston Women’s Rugby will take on Division 1 rivals throughout the East Coast as well.

Beantown Rugby is transitioning from the recently concluded Women’s Premier League (WPL) season to prepare for the launch of Women’s Elite Rugby (WER), a new professional league poised to elevate the women’s game to new heights.
