New England Teams Shine at 2025 Atlantic Super Regional in Newport

The 2025 Atlantic Super Regional brought fierce competition to Newport, and New England teams rose to the challenge—claiming titles, testing limits, and leaving it all on the pitch.

The 2025 Atlantic Super Regional, held May 3–4 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island, showcased the strength and spirit of New England rugby. Hosted by NERFU, the event featured over 20 men’s and women’s amateur teams across seven divisions, all vying for regional titles and, in some cases, advancement to the USA Club Rugby National Championships.

Boston Irish Wolfhounds Capture Men’s Division 2 Title

The Boston Irish Wolfhounds continued their dominance in Men’s Division 2, securing their third consecutive Atlantic Super Regional championship. In a thrilling semifinal against North Bay, the Wolfhounds overcame a three-try deficit at the half. Inside center Jack Kiernan narrowed the gap, and Andrew Marshall’s last-minute try sealed a 35–29 victory .

The momentum carried into the final, where the Wolfhounds faced the New York Rugby Club. After a competitive first half, Boston pulled away with three second-half tries, culminating in a 31–10 win. This victory earns them a spot in the Men’s Division 2 semifinals at the USA Club Rugby XVs National Championships, scheduled for May 16–18 in Indianapolis.

Portland Rugby Club Clinches Women’s Division 3 Championship

Portland Rugby Club’s women’s team delivered a commanding performance in the Women’s Division 3 final, defeating DC Revolution 35–12 on May 4. The match saw Portland’s offense ignite early, with tries from Angelica Carr and Olivia Rasp in the first half. Brianna Dargin’s precise kicking added conversions and a penalty goal, extending the lead. In the second half, Portland continued their dominance with additional tries from Michaela Tyrrell, Addison Fox, and Dargin herself. The team’s cohesive play and strategic execution secured their victory and the Atlantic Super Regional title.

New London County Rugby Secures Men’s Division 4 Championship

New London County Rugby Club showcased exceptional skill and teamwork in the Men’s Division 4 final, overpowering Frederick Rugby Club with a 60–19 victory on May 4. The match featured a remarkable performance by fly-half Noah Coutcher, who scored five tries and contributed multiple conversions. Additional tries from Alexander Nanai, Alex Frederick, Stephen Early, Joshua Russell, and Brandon Hall highlighted the team’s offensive prowess. New London’s comprehensive win underscores the depth and talent within New England’s rugby community

With the Atlantic Super Regional concluded, attention now turns to the USA Club Rugby XVs National Championships. The Boston Irish Wolfhounds will represent New England in the Men’s Division 2 semifinals, aiming to bring national glory back to the region.
