Championship Weekend Brings New England Clubs Together

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NERFU (New England Rugby Football Union) Announces Championship Weekend Featuring Premier Rugby Competitions

Canton, Mass. & Wellesley, Mass. — NERFU (New England Rugby Football Union) is excited to announce the Championship Weekend, hosting top-level rugby competitions on April 13 and 14, 2024. This standout rugby weekend will feature both senior and college clubs vying for championship titles and national qualification spots.

Senior Clubs Championship at the Irish Cultural Center

On April 13, 2024, eight elite senior rugby clubs will compete at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton, Massachusetts. The matches are set to determine the NERFU champions in four divisions:

  • Division 3 Women: South Shore Sirens vs. Amoskeag Rugby
  • Division 3 Men: Charles River Rugby vs. Boston Irish Wolfhounds
  • Division 2 Women: Albany Knickerbockers vs. Worcester Shamrocks
  • Division 2 Men: Portland Rugby vs. Boston Irish Wolfhounds

Winners of the senior club championships will advance to the Atlantic Super Regionals, serving as a semi-final stage for clubs across the Northeastern US and a qualifier for the National Championship.

NERFU Lighthouse 7s: College Championship Tournament at Babson College

Concurrently, the Lighthouse 7s Championship Tournament will take place at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts on April 13 and 14. This exclusive competition will feature 16 NERFU college teams in a thrilling two-day event, broken down into four competitive pools:

  • Pool A: Colby, Bentley, Keene State, New Haven
  • Pool B: Holy Cross, Tufts, Merrimack, Curry
  • Pool C: Wesleyan, University of New England (UNE), Bowdoin
  • Pool D: Middlebury, Babson-Maulers, Providence

The Lighthouse 7s champions will earn an automatic qualifier spot for the 7s Nationals, making it a crucial platform for aspiring national contenders.
