Boston, MA — The New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU) is excited to announce that registration is now open for the inaugural NERFU Training & Development Summit, scheduled for August 8–10, 2025, at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts.
This three-day event offers USA Rugby certifications across multiple disciplines, including Coaching (Levels 1 & 2), Refereeing (Levels 1 & 2), and Strength & Conditioning. It’s an unparalleled opportunity for rugby coaches, referees, and enthusiasts to enhance their skills and contribute to the growth of the sport in New England.
Event Highlights:
Friday, August 8: Attendee check-in, optional group golfing session, and a networking event specifically for college coaches.
Saturday, August 9: Full-day training sessions featuring concurrent Level 1 courses in Coaching, Refereeing, and Strength & Conditioning, as well as the first day of Level 2 courses for Coaching and Refereeing.
Sunday, August 10: Continuation and completion of training sessions, including the second day of Level 2 courses and additional Level 1 courses.
Details:
Level 1 Coach Course: Focuses on player welfare and the technical skills necessary for safe play, emphasizing effective coaching techniques such as teaching through games and collaborative coaching. Suitable for all experience levels.
Level 2 Coach Course: Designed for those who have completed Level 1, this certification delves into advanced coaching skills, athlete development, and program building, involving comprehensive pre-coursework, in-person clinics, and post-coursework.
Level 1 Referee Course: Introduces officiating in a safe, competent, and enjoyable manner, equipping participants to demonstrate basic officiating skills and theoretical knowledge for local age-grade and senior rugby competitions.
Level 2 Referee Course: For referees who have completed Level 1 and have at least one season of experience, this course explores advanced topics like positioning, advantage, and materiality to further referee development.
Level 1 Strength & Conditioning Course: Provides foundational knowledge and practical skills in strength and conditioning, covering topics such as functional screening, principles of training, and recovery, aimed at preparing athletes for optimal performance.
Space is limited, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Participants can choose from any combination of two Level 1 courses held on Saturday and Sunday, or opt for a single Level 2 course spanning both days.
