SUMMARY:NORAM Cup: Boston 2025
DESCRIPTION:The North America (NORAM) Cup is a biennial gay and inclusive rugby tournament\, and the largest rugby union tournament in North America. The inaugural NORAM Cup was in 2023\, hosted by the Charlotte Royals in North Carolina. The host city and club for the 2025 tournament is Boston\, Massachusetts and the Boston Ironsides RFC. \nThe 2025 NORAM Championship will field two divisions\, Men’s+ and Women’s+\, as well as a Trans Match. \nSimilar to the Bingham Cup and the Union Cup on an international and European scale respectively and held biennially\, the NORAM Cup focuses on promoting inclusivity\, diversity\, and camaraderie within the rugby community specifically in North America. It brings together LGBTQ+ rugby teams and allies from various parts of North America to compete in a spirit of sportsmanship and celebration. \nThe tournament provides a platform for teams to showcase their skills\, athleticism\, and dedication to the sport while fostering a sense of community\, acceptance\, and respect. SUMMARY:NERFU Training & Development Summit
DESCRIPTION:NERFU is pleased to announce the inaugural Training and Development Summit to be held at Nichols College in Dudley\, Mass. August 8 to the 10th. This three day workshop will include USA Rugby certifications in Coaching (levels 1 & 2)\, Refereeing (levels 1 & 2)\, and Strength & Conditioning. \nREGISTER TODAY >> \n‘More better rugby’ starts with getting resources to the volunteers who make our game possible. Space is limited\, so we strongly encourage you to register early. \nParticipants can choose from any combination of two Level 1 courses – to be held Saturday and Sunday respectively\, or they may register for a single Level 2 course which is held over the course of both days. On Friday participants will enjoy a check-in welcome and may participate in a group golfing session and/or a networking meeting for college coaches. Watch this space for more programming developments. \nAbout the Courses\nLevel 1 Coach Course\nThe Level 1 Coach Course (formerly L200) focuses on player welfare and the technical skills to play safely – specifically the tackle and the scrum. The course requires coaches to demonstrate effective coaching techniques\, taught in the course including teaching through games\, technical skill development through progressions\, and collaborative coaching. \nThis course is suitable for all experience levels and will likely comprise a mix of veteran players/coaches and those new to the game – all benefitting from a free exchange of ideas/experience. \nLevel 2 Coach Course\nThe Level 2 Coaching Certification is the next step for those who have already completed Level 1. The certification progresses towards advanced coaching skills used in athlete development and program building. This course is much more involved than the Level 1 with respect to pre-coursework\, the in-person clinic\, and post-coursework. \nThe objective of the certification is for coaches to increase their ability to coach technical skills to achieve strategic and tactical outcomes. Coaches will be able to use the coaching process\, key factor analysis\, and functional role analysis to achieve specific short and medium term goals for their teams. \nLevel 1 Referee Course\nIntroduction to officiating in a safe\, competent and enjoyable way! This course is for people who wish to become Match Officials in local age-grade competitions and senior Rugby. \nOn successful completion of the course a match official will be able to demonstrate basic officiating skills based on appropriate theoretical knowledge and evidence of preparation and planning\, and be able to officiate aspects of the game in a modified context. \nLevel 2 Referee Course\nThe Level 2 Referee Course is for any referee that has completed their Level 1 course and been a referee for at least one season. In this course you will explore further topics such as positioning\, advantage\, materiality and other techniques to advance as a referee. \nLevel 1 Strength & Conditioning (Adult) Course\nThe World Rugby Level 1 Strength and Conditioning course is designed to provide basic knowledge and understanding of strength and conditioning and a foundation of practical skills. The course covers Long Term Player Development Pathway\, Functional screening\, Anatomical Adaptation\, Demands of the game\, Principles of training\, Speed and intermittent sprint endurance\, Periodization and Recovery. \nIt is intended for all coaches\, referees\, players\, administrators\, parents\, and others who are involved with rugby. Participants do not need to have previous experience in Strength & Conditioning as this course primarily centers around preparing athletes to perform and recover.

Expect a DJ or band this year. Costumes are highly encouraged as per usual. We’ll also have tickets for pitchers of free beer for each team\, send a coach or captain to pick up from NERFU staff while at the tournament. \n  \nWeather & Clothing Advice\nPer usual\, the weather forecast for Newport this weekend is variable. We’ve seen massive swings in weather from blizzard conditions to blazing heat and everything in between — sometimes on the same weekend. We highly encourage packing and planning for any/all conditions. That means several layers and weather proof jackets for cold conditions\, puddle friendly shoes in case of rain and mud\, and also t-shirts\, shorts\, and sunscreen if we luck out and get a taste of summer. \n  \nDon’t Get Towed — Parking Warning\nParking is STRICTLY prohibited on roads and neighborhoods in/around Fort Adams State Park. That includes the road at the top of the hill just above the playing fields. \nThe neighborhood association is on the lookout and tow trucks will be called. Please only park in the designated Fort Adams State Park parking lot located here. Parking is limited\, so we strongly encourage teams to carpool. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Rosie's Ruck: 7s Tournament for Epilepsy Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Rosie’s Ruck is a community rugby tournament created by youth advocate Parker Vitagliano-Hill to raise awareness and support for epilepsy. Inspired by her sister Alana and her seizure alert dog Rosie\, the event brings together teams from across New England to raise funds for seizure alert dog training and epilepsy education. \nIn addition to the $260 team entry fee (representing the 1 in 26 people diagnosed with epilepsy)\, each team is asked to match or exceed their registration fee through fundraising. \nWithin 48 hours of registration\, every team receives a secure\, personalized donation page to share with their network. This makes it easy for teams to fundraise\, track progress\, and compete for top fundraising recognition. \nTeams are responsible for meeting or exceeding their fundraising commitment. If the fundraising goal is not met through donations\, the remaining balance will be collected to ensure each team reaches the minimum impact contribution.
